  • Catholic Social Justice Outreach

Currently, our parish is involved in two ongoing outreach ministries with peoples of another culture and each are teaching us more about the dignity of human life and enriching us as we continue to serve and learn:
The Padrino Project, facilitated by Ann Miller and Margaret D’Huyvetter.  Our principle work is OLOG’s participation in an Education Assistance Program for needy students at San Miguel Parish in Totonicapan, Guatemala.  Approximately 25 student are financially assisted through this program.  Those wishing to help may contact Ann or Margaret for more information via the church office:  (816)232-2847
Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, facilitated by Jim Grechus and Kathy Powers.  Our principle work is to befriend members of the Lakota Sioux.  As witnesses of justice and charity, we provide food several times a year to families known to us on the reservation and take an interest in their lives.  If it is possible for us to do so, through the consistent support of parishioners, we also help with utility expenses.  The families we assist, in turn, then reach out to share with other families on the rez.  Members of the Pine Ridge Team are Ken & Connie Newton, Joyce & Ted O’Meara, Jim Grechus, Jenny Grechus, Alan & Valyne Pochop, Larry Miller & Larry & Lori Zillner.  Jim Grechus networks throughout the community and beyond to secure sources for food for our trips to Pine Ridge.  For more information, contact any team member through the church office:  (816)232-2847

  • Faith in Action Ministries

Faith in Action Ministry Team members include:  Connie & Ken Newton, Anne & Doug Frank, Ellen Remick, Diane Ricci, Bunny Newville, Valyne Pochop, Jimalee O’Connor, Ruth Thornton and Marilyn Johnson.  The mission of the ministry team is to create ways for the parish to respond with compassion to the needs of the poor in our local community.  Programs include: the Annual Thanksgiving Food Drive, Sock it to Poverty, Christmas Adoption Outreach & Angel Giving Tree, Food of the Month, Soup-er Bowl Sunday Drive, What Can You Do for a Child Today Food Drive, Soles for Christ, Parish Food Pantry Partner, Open Door Food Kitchen, and Buck of the Month.

  • Pastoral Care Ministries

Mission:  To effectively respond to parishioners who are suffering physically, emotionally or spiritually.  Ministries include the Sacraments of Healing (Confession and Anointing, provided by a priest), and pastoral visitation in a one-on-one setting either at Mosaic Life Care, any care facility, in the home, or at the parish offices.  Pastoral Care ministries also includes bringing Holy Communion to Catholic patients at Mosaic, at care facilities and in the home.  Services include:

    • Bereavement Support (one-on-one or occasionally, in a group setting)
    • Long Term Care Facility:  Holy Communion is brought weekly to the following care facilities within our parish boundaries:  Carriage Square, Abbey Woods, Vintage Gardens, Riverside Place; Mass at Country Squire on the second Tuesday of the month.
    • Mosaic Life Care:  Holy Communion is offered to Catholic patients on Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday mornings.  Parishioners and/or their family are asked to please contact the parish upon admittance to the hospital.
    • Funeral Planning:  Upon the death of a parishioner, the family is offered guidance and care from our pastor and pastoral associate in planning the funeral liturgy.  Luncheons following the service are offered to all parish families.  Our parishioners and staff serve as musicians, liturgical ministers, greeters and prepare the funeral luncheon.
    • Greeting Cards for Homebound Parishioners: A group of parishioners meet nearly every month to prepare handmade seasonal cards and birthday cards.  New members are always welcome.  Contact the parish office.
    • Give Us This Day:  This is a parish-based, free food service for our parishioners upon release from the hospital following surgery, serious illness or accident.  For further information, please contact Kathy Powers or Jane Hausman.
    • Prison Ministry is not a ministry of the parish per se, but is provided by some of our male parishioners to those incarcerated at Western Reception Diagnostic Correction Center (WRDCC).  If you are interested in learning more, please contact one of the following:  Mike Harris, Roger Knapp, Jerry Ashlock, or Bob Rzepkowski.
    • Visitation in the Home:  In our parish are a few trained “Mary’s Ministers” who can be paired up with a parishioner for a few weeks/months to make a weekly visit in the home or in one of the rooms at church.  Visits are strictly confidential and is based on the idea that we all have our own spiritual wisdom and we can hear it, if allowed to speak while someone is truly listening and providing “caring presence.”  Mary’s Ministers do not try to “fix” the problem, but can, especially if invited, offer their perspective or suggest a referral if requested.  There is no monetary fee.  The meetings will begin and end with prayer.  Situations benefitting from a Mary’s Minister could include grieving loss, divorce or separation, chronic illness, etc.
