The year 2018 brought Marie Scott and her husband, Gerry, from Sacramento, California to St. Joseph and to Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish. Marie was born in Sacramento, an “only child,” graduating from CSU-Sacramento with a B.A. in History. Marie explained that her search for God led her to attend a Catholic church with a friend and soon found it to feel like “home.” She completed RCIA and was initiated into the Catholic Faith at the age of 20. Her work experi-ence includes being a loan officer at a credit union, before stopping work to raise their boys. After moving to St. Jo-seph, Marie worked briefly for the Hy-Vee Pharmacy and the City of St. Joseph in customer service.
Marie and Gerry were drawn to Our Lady of Guadalupe for two main reasons: Fr. Christian and his homilies and how alive our parish is with various programs and activities for parishioners of all ages. She also feels at home with the “flow of the Mass,” being very much like their former parish of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Sacramen-to. At her former parish, Marie was very active in Respect Life activities, Elizabeth Ministry, and Baptismal Prepara-tion for Parents. She directed Vacation Bible School, trained the altar servers, and took care of the altar linens.Marie likes her position as Parish Secretary. Her organiza-tional gifts and calm, quiet personality are an asset to the whole staff. Marie said, “I like being close to the Tabernacle every day, being busy and helping people!
